Whether you want to repair, refresh or redesign your furniture, IKEA custom Besta doors may be the right choice. Check below all the advantages of ordering and installing Besta cabinet doors.
Replace old sideboard doors with custom Besta doors
Did you know that you can customize IKEA furniture using replacements for its particular elements? It is a less expensive and quicker way to make your old furniture look fresh and new. You don’t have to replace all the furniture to make it look better or different. Just buy custom Besta doors. You will end up with a brand new storage design.
There are six design main styles and many colours you can choose from. We will show you what you can gain using our custom doors to replace the old ones.
Choosing door colour
When it comes to the colour of the furniture, it can be difficult to choose the right shade. You can approach this problem from many angles. Everyone can have different ideas of how to do it. We provide some guidance below.
The easiest way to choose colours is to choose the one that you like the best. is a good option for people who live alone and don’t have to compromise their design choices. The other way to choose the best colour is to refer to some psychological theories. Colours have different influences on our emotions. Do you want your kitchen to be calming, where you can rest at the end of a hard day? Or maybe you need a place to lift your mood and appetite? Cool colours, like light blue, will be ideal to calm everyone down. They also make any space look vaster than in reality. To boost your digesting system and create a sense of cosiness choose warm colours instead.
How to choose a colour for custom Besta doors?
It is one thing to choose the colour you like the most for your furniture, and another to choose the best paint. We use the NCS system, among others, to display the most accurate palette of colours for our clients. It is a chart of almost two thousand colours, reflecting their physical appearance. It can be very useful. Especially if you want to know what your custom Besta doors will look like after painting. You can check out the palette online or order physical samples of painted materials for your home. When you are ready use a specific code for the colour you are most interested in. There should be a possibility to bring any sample of the colour you like the most to the nearest store related to the paint or furniture industry. They should have the ability to scan the sample and give you the code of particular colour from the NCS chart. You can also buy the scanner yourself but it is not the cheapest of devices, so it is better to ask for scanning at the store.
Besides NCS we use Farrow&Ball or Jotun colour charts.
Glossy or matte?
You can also choose between three types of gloss finish. Matte will look more rustic and natural. It is better to combine it with light colours. Matte colour doesn’t reflect light. This may be a good resolution for a very bright kitchen or room. Very glossy furniture could be distracting in a space highly saturated with light. It also exposes more imperfections on the surface. In a darker room, the gloss or semi-gloss option may fit better. It will make the interior look more classy. Glossy surfaces are also easier to clean because of less friction upon their surface.
You can choose on other bases – for example, whether gloss or matte matches the floor panels or the type of used materials and paint.
Custom BESTA doors materials
The replacement doors for Besta cabinets are wooden kitchen doors but made of MDF boards and not of solid wood. MDF is an engineered wood product. In MDF boards production some hardwood and softwood fibres are used and bonded with resin and wax. These are denser than plywood or particleboard. The smooth surface is ideal for painting or the application of veneer.
The board is strengthened with the Akzo Nobel lacquer to be more durable and moisture resistant.
MDF boards are also less expensive than natural wood or plywood so you can buy your custom Besta doors at an advantageous price. The final price depends on the type of gloss finish that you choose.
Do you prefer to mask or show furniture legs?
Adjusting IKEA custom fronts to your furniture you have both options available: You can either hide the lower part behind additional masking panels or choose the decorative furniture legs and leave them exposed.
There are advantages and disadvantages of both options. Hidden legs are preferred in modern kitchen design. However, this makes cleaning more difficult. When dirt tends to accumulate quickly under your furniture in your home, it is better to choose the second option. The cabinet bottom-placed 17 to 30 cm above the floor enables to sweep and clean easily underneath. It is also less likely to become home for any kitchen pests.
Most people choose one of these two options because of its aesthetic values. Cabinets with exposed legs usually give a kitchen a vintage look but the final result depends on other elements and overall kitchen design as well. What kind of IKEA Besta legs would you choose? Longer or shorter? Hidden or exposed? You have all these options available the rest is up to you.
Choosing details for your cabinet doors
There is a wide range of handles and knobs on our website to choose from. Handles can be really useful with the Basic custom BESTA doors. This simple design looks good when completed with one of the many stylish handles which are available in our store. Round or rectangle, wooden knobs will be better for natural-looking doors. To contrast the colour of the surface, you can choose a metal handle, silver or golden. There is also a lot of black handles. They match, for example, white cabinet doors.
Choosing handles is not only the question of aesthetics. You can also check them and decide which should be the most practical in your kitchen.
The cabinet door design is one of the key factors when it comes to creating an overall look for your room or kitchen. There are six styles of custom BESTA doors you can choose from, Basic, Classic, Cube, Elegance, Nordic and Ontime. They range from very simple to more sophisticated. For example, BESTA Classic is designed to remind traditional shaker cabinets, with its flat panel and no other decorations. It goes well with knobs, although you can also try some types of handles. The subtle decorations of Cube or Elegance are very classy, but they also look modern and neat.
Custom BESTA doors hinges
It is also important to know how to attach the door to the cabinet. Every custom BESTA door can be adapted to use handleless technology. It means that you can open them even without any handle. It opens with a gentle push. If you have already chosen the handles for your cabinets you can still use the soft closing option.
The hinges go with doors, but you have to adjust them yourself. Fortunately, it is an easy task. You can use a simple screwdriver to do it. The easiest way to get it done is to split two pieces from the door and cabinet part and adjust them separately to these pieces of furniture.
You will find plenty of video instructions on how to do this. It is advisable to check out the method of adjusting before you start to do it.
