Interior design trends 2021 – what can we expect?
This year was different from previous ones for obvious reasons. However, the vision of spending more time at home and even working there creates a new opportunity for us all. More than ever before, the interior design industry has focused on making the space in our homes functional and inviting.
Interior design trends 2021 bring fresh air to the home design industry. Interior design projects were always supposed to make the time spent at home relaxing. Currently, home space is not only an opportunity to spend time with the family but also to perform professional tasks. That’s why it’s so important that the kitchen remains a space where we can take a pleasant break or relax while cooking our favourite dishes. Revitalising your kitchen might be the most important aspect in the pandemic times, so let’s check what trends are ahead for 2021 in kitchen design!
Light against dark
In the other article, we have already talked about the fact that dark colours are returning to their favour. Contrary to popular belief, the skilful use of black and brown significantly contributes to the feeling of the cosiness of the room. By choosing the right colour combinations we can also optically enlarge the space. Interior design trends 2021 include one of those methods, which is to use contrasting colours.
It may become very popular to use black and brown in a room where bright colours are dominant. For example, below you can see a visualisation where a kitchen is designed mostly with white and beige. What catches the eye are the single dark tiles and countertops. In this way, the room seems much larger, because the dark colours emphasise the space while giving it depth.
The cabinets are designed with our IKEA Faktum doors, which can be customised in colour and size. Here you can see the Faktum Classic style in beige colour,
Interior design trends 2021 – Use your walls to the fullest
This advice may not work particularly well in small kitchens, where open shelves and free space under the ceiling give the impression of more space. However, if you own a kitchen of at least medium size, take on our advice: build your walls with cabinets right up to the ceiling.
Kitchen storage is always a big problem in a house where the whole family lives, so let’s use every inch to the fullest! 2021 will be the year that brings floor-to-ceiling cabinets back to life again. Let’s be honest, this is the most practical solution in any house and it doesn’t have to look any worse than lighter designs. Why? Because it is also combined with another hot trend that we present in the next paragraph.
And now enjoy our next visualisation, where the kitchen is designed with cabinets covering the entire wall. Not only this is a great way to store, but it also gives you an extremely organised and tidy look. Together with the IKEA replacement kitchen doors, which have been designed in Metod Elegance style, the whole project is asking you to try it out in real life!
Neat and straight lines
We all like spending time in a kitchen that is well organised. A good design is one that enhances the functionality of the room but also gives it a neat and pleasant look.
The more practical the design, the better, but this does not mean that it cannot look good. In the previous paragraph, we mentioned floor-to-ceiling installation and now it has to be said that this design looks better when using simple patterns and neutral colours. And interior design trends 2021 are all about that!
Straight lines and simple design create a sense of a calm and inviting place where we can relax after a day full of work. This can also help to create an impression of a coherent and tidy space where you find all equipment quickly and cooking becomes a relaxing habit.
Below you can see one of our favourite projects, where a kitchen is equipped with floor-to-ceiling cabinets in white. They fit in very well with our Metod Instyle fronts, which are designed to create the most minimalist and neat space possible.
Quartz not to like?
Marble countertops and walls have been an enormously popular trend in 2020. But the new alternative has come up and it’s looking good!
The quartz materials give similarly aesthetic and polished look but what’s more important is that they are resistant to most mechanical damages. Apart from that, they are also appreciated for their easy maintenance. If you are interested in designing the kitchen with light stone texture, we believe this is the style to check it out!
Quartz goes especially well with the darker shades or when combined with golden accents. Below you can see our project of the kitchen designed with dark blue cabinets and quartz countertops. The golden knobs and sink add up to the unique and luxurious impression of the room. You can check the style of the fronts applied to the cabinet by looking for Metod Basic product on our website.
Interior design trends 2021 – Open your kitchen to new possibilities
And we mean it quite literally. An open kitchenette connected with a living area is one of the hottest trends nowadays. The combination of the two rooms helps to strengthen family ties and makes you do more things together.
It also provides exciting new opportunities for interior design. The décor of the kitchen must match one of the living room, but that doesn’t mean you can’t go experimenting. Contrasting colours and multiple textures that create room depth are some of the techniques that you can try out if you want to open your kitchen to the living room.
Interior design trends 2021 are all about our family life because of the time we spent at home. Let’s use it to the fullest!
Below you can see our next visualisation where the living room is connected with a kitchenette. The furniture is designed mostly with whites and beiges that are contrasted with vivid colours such as the cushions on the couch. In the picture, you can see the cabinets designed with the Method Nordic+ style and the BESTA sideboard with our Noremax fronts.
Go eco right now!
Interior design trends 2021 are more environmentally friendly as this is becoming an urgent topic for the whole of humanity. There are several ways to achieve the most energy-efficient project in your kitchen and we are happy to present some of them.
Big smart windows
Where you place your windows has a big influence on how much daylight comes to your room. And the more it does, the less energy you’re using on turning the artificial lights on. For that reason, investing in big windows designed to catch the most out of the natural sunlight is a great idea for all eco-friendly kitchens.
A+++ appliances and kitchen gadgets
Hopefully, it doesn’t need any introduction. Let’s make sure that all of our kitchen equipment is marked with the highest energy-saving class A+++.
Not only is this environmentally friendly, but also reduces some of your bills. In the long run, you save more than you spend!
Sort your garbage with style
The market is overflown with the trash bins designed to help you with rubbish sorting. They are compatible with most of the cabinets and offer some clever solutions to make the whole process easier.
