PRODUCTS & MATERIALS
Below you will find an overview of all materials and products used in the production of Noremax fronts.

MATERIALS

MDF

MDF stands for medium-density fibreboard and is a fabricated wood product consisting of wood fibre, resin, and glue.

The great advantage of MDF is the ability to bend, shape and mill according to the desired use and purpose. It can be clearly painted to show the authenticity of the material, or it can be varnished in the desired colour to complement other interiors.

The MDF materials used on Noremax fronts are not water-resistant and therefore a more vulnerable material in direct contact with moisture and water. The varnish used on MDF fronts seals the surface precisely to shut off moisture, but if the surface has taken deeper damage, a small amount of moisture over a long period of time can cause the MDF to swell.

The MDF products at Noremax come in the following thicknesses:
12 mm (side panels)
16 mm (fronts)
19 mm (fronts)

As with all surfaces of natural materials, shade differences will occur on different batches. There is therefore no colour guarantee, and the final product cannot be compared with pictures or samples that have been ordered or seen in the showroom.

There are options for high-density fibreboard (HDF) in certain colours as an alternative to MDF if you want something more water-resistant and/or keep it clear for a more authentic look.

Maintenance:
Maintenance requirements depend on the type of product used for surface treatment. See “PRODUCT” for more information.

HDF

HDF stands for high-density fibreboard and is a fabricated wood product consisting of wood fibre, resin, and glue.

The great advantage of HDF is the ability to bend, shape and mill according to the desired use and purpose.

The HDF materials used on Noremax fronts are water-resistant and are better suited as a material for wet rooms than MDF. Nevertheless, the material in contact with moisture and water over time may weaken. The varnish used on HDF fronts seals the surface precisely to shut off moisture, but if the surface has taken deeper damage, a greater amount of moisture over a long period of time can cause the HDF to swell.

As with all surfaces of natural materials, shade differences will occur on different batches. There is therefore no colour guarantee, and the final product cannot be compared with pictures or samples that have been ordered or seen in the showroom.

The HDF products at Noremax come in the following thicknesses:
12 mm (side panels)
16 mm (fronts)
19 mm (fronts)

PLYWOOD

There are many different varieties of plywood, with various types of wood, thickness, and coat method. The main concept of plywood is at least three veneer plates layered, the fibre direction of which crosses on every other layer to create stability in the material while retaining its strength.

Plywood fronts at Noremax are made of birch plywood, with the choice of either ash or oak veneer on the two outer layers (front + back). The panels are “quarter cut” type which provides a surface with evenly distributed rings in a vertical direction. There are 5 layers of them.

Plywood is composed of natural material (wood) that can provide a variation in structure and shade based on the various batches in which it is produced. Each Noremax front in plywood will therefore be unique, especially if few orders have been placed in a different time frame.

As with all surfaces made of natural materials, differences in shade and structure will occur on different parts. There is therefore no colour or structure guarantee on our wooden fronts, and the final product cannot be compared with pictures or samples that have been ordered or seen in the showroom.

Even though the material is rigid and stable, stress to the material can occur causing it to bend. This is especially true if the material is exposed to temperature differences.

The plywood products at Noremax come in specific thicknesses:
12 mm (side panel)
19 mm (fronts)

VENEERED MDF

Veneered MDF is a form-stable material consisting of medium-density fibreboard (MDF) and a thin wooden veneer plate on the front and back as well as an edge strip. These panels are well suited for indoor use in rooms that are not exposed to high humidity, such as kitchens.

Among the products we lead in Noremax we have the veneer in ash, oak or walnut glued with strong wood glue on the MDF panel.
The veneer panels themselves are completely natural, meaning large variations in the structure, density and shade can occur. Ash, oak and walnut have approximately equal physical and technical characteristics in terms of wear resistance and hardness.

As with all surfaces made of natural materials, differences in shade and structure will occur on different parts. There is therefore no colour or structure guarantee on our wooden fronts, and the final product cannot be compared with pictures or samples that have been ordered or seen in the showroom.

Veneered MDF products at Noremax come in specific thicknesses:
12 mm (side panel)
16 mm (fronts)
19 mm (fronts)

LINOLEUM

Linoleum is a natural material consisting of linseed oil, resin and cork. The unique material has many advantages like a matte surface that does not show finger marks and it is repairable. The natural composition and Forbo’s surface treatment make the linoleum naturally antistatic. This means that the surface actively counteracts the build-up of static elasticity, which helps prevent dust and dirt from sticking to the surface so that the material stays clean and hygienic.

Since Linoleum furniture is made of natural raw materials, there may be small colour variations between different production batches. Remember to take this into account when making repeat orders.
Also, please note that light linoleum colours kept in dark may temporarily yellowed but when unpack and left in daylight they will go back to their original colour.
Minor scratches on the linoleum material can be fixed by gently rubbing a peeled walnut on it. The white walnut contains oils and fats that repair the linoleum.

Linoleum fronts are made of three different materials: MDF, oak veneer and linoleum.
Pure Linoleum is made of two different materials: HDF in the core and two layers of linoleum (front, back)

This product comes in specific thicknesses:
14 mm (side panels)
21-22 mm (fronts)

Maintenance:
If the surface gets minor scratches, it can easily be fixed by rubbing a walnut on the scratch. Be sure to remove the shell. As the white part of the walnut contains oils and fats, they are ideal for repairing Linoleum.
There is also a product called “Forbo Cleaner” that can be used on this surface, otherwise, just wash away spills and stains with a damp cloth and mild soaps.

BAMBOO

Bamboo is a natural material that is considered grass and not wood. The fast-growing bamboo has become very popular with its eco-friendly properties, in that it is fully grown and can be cut only after 5 years. This makes the material one of the world’s fastest-growing and most renewable resources.

After harvesting, the stem is split lengthwise, and the bark is removed. The strips then have a natural light-yellow colour, but they can be steamed to achieve a light brown colour (caramel). After the strips have been dried, they progress to the final production stage and are pressed in varying ways for different surfaces, structures, and hardening.

In the compressed version, bamboo is up to three times harder than oak and is located at 3.8 on a Brinell scale over hardness. The bamboo material used on Noremax products is a type of plywood, in which the stems are joined in the core and strips are compressed under high temperatures characterizing the front and back.

As with all surfaces made of natural materials, differences in shade and structure will occur on different parts. There is therefore no colour or structure guarantee on our wooden fronts, and the final product cannot be compared with pictures or samples that have been ordered or seen in the showroom.

This product comes in only one thickness:
20 mm

ASK WOOD

Solid ash wood has very good strength properties as it is both hard and tough and has gathered the best technical properties of all hardwood species. Ash has a long-life cycle and is characterized by light wood with marked annual rings in more brownish shades.

As with all surfaces made of natural materials, differences in shade and structure will occur on different parts. There is therefore no colour or structure guarantee on our wooden fronts, and the final product cannot be compared with pictures or samples that have been ordered or seen in the showroom.

The wood material used in the production of our fronts is of European origin and is mainly used in only two of our designs, Classic Max and Classic Frame.

This product comes in only one thickness:
21 mm

Associated side panels and plinths come in veneered MDF, with the following thickness:
12 mm (side panels)
18 mm (plinth)

Maintenance:
Maintenance requirements depend on the type of product used for surface treatment. See “PRODUCT” for more information.

OAK WOOD

Solid oak is a medium-heavy type of wood that has very good strength properties as, like ash, it is both hard and tough. The colour can vary from yellowish to grey, while the core has shades of yellow brown to grey or reddish-brown. It is durable, has a nice shine and shrinks little. The wood rings are decorative and are therefore widely used for interior purposes.

As with all surfaces made of natural materials, differences in shade and structure will occur on different parts. There is therefore no colour or structure guarantee on our wooden fronts, and the final product cannot be compared with pictures or samples that have been ordered or seen in the showroom.

POLYMERIC MDF

This material consists of MDF with polymeric foil. The foil is produced using nanotechnology and high temperature, which makes the surface resistant to scratches and finger marks despite the matte surface.
The material comes in an ultra-matte finish, but with a limited range of colours.
See the Soft Ultra-Matt collection for products in this material.

If over time, marks and/or scratches appear on the surface, this can be easily repaired by placing a kitchen towel on the front and using an iron or hairdryer. The high temperature causes the material to heal and go back into its original state.

The product comes in one thickness:
19 mm

The corresponding side panels come in the following thickness:
12 mm

Maintenance:

If marks and/or scratches occur on the surface over time, this can be easily repaired by placing a kitchen towel on the front and using an iron or hairdryer. The high temperature causes the material to “melt” and merge, so it goes back to its original state.
The surface can only be washed with a damp cloth and mild soaps such as universal spray or washing-up liquid.

LAMINATE

Laminate is a material consisting of two or more layers of wood fibres pressed together under high pressure. Since the laminate’s surface is made of synthetic material, it can be printed in many different designs, textures, and colours.
The material has good properties and is resistant to wear, especially chips and scratches. It can withstand high temperatures and is not easily discoloured by food and spills, so the material is also excellent for flat surfaces (e.g., worktops).

Since laminate comes in thin and often flexible sheets, it can be combined with various core materials. By this, it meant the material that holds the construction and shape of the product. Our fronts and wardrobe carcasses with laminate have a core of European chipboard. These chipboards have a solid core layer and finer outer layers. The triple structure offers a wide range of applications in furniture and interior design, and the surface is ideal for various coatings – such as laminate.
These boards are solid and have very good stability, but they are best suited in dry rooms. 90% of the material comes from renewable resources and is certified within FSC.

If deeper damage occurs in the laminate, it cannot be fixed, since it cannot be sanded, or the surface can’t be treated.

Laminate-coated chipboard products come in two thicknesses:
18 mm (carcass and fronts)
16 mm (side panels)

Maintenance:
The surface is maintenance-free. In case of spills, steam, moisture etc. this should be wiped away immediately so that it does not soak into the product and cause permanent damage.
If fingerprints and grease stains occur, you can use a damp cloth with a few drops of washing-up liquid, wash over one product at a time and dry it completely with paper towels. Please note that with matt surfaces a polishing effect can be obtained if the wrong method of washing is used.

PRODUCTS

AKZO NOBEL – CLEAR LACQUER

The coat used on our products is by well-known paint manufacturer Akzo Nobel, which has dozens of dealers worldwide. The varnish type is an acid-hardened two-component used by many kitchen manufacturers for a durable result.
Clear varnish is mainly used on fronts where a natural and authentic result is desired. This product is offered in three different gloss levels: semi-gloss (40% of sheen), satin (20% of sheen) and matte (10% of sheen).

Maintenance:
Products treated with this type of surface treatment are maintenance-free and do not require any finishing. In case of spillage, steam, moisture, etc. tea should be wiped out immediately so that it does not soaks into the product and cause lasting damage.

If finger marks and grease stains occur, you can use a damp cloth with a few drops of gentle soap, wash one product at a time and wipe it completely dry with paper towels. Please note that in the case of rubbing the surfaces, a polishing effect may be achieved by the wrong method of cleaning (hard polishing).

AKZO NOBEL – COLOURED VARNISH (PAINT)

The coloured varnish used on our products is by the well-known paint manufacturer Akzo Nobel, which has dozens of dealers worldwide. The varnish is the type of acid-hardened two-component used by many kitchen manufacturers for a durable result.

Coloured varnish (paint) is mainly used on fronts, which in turn puts a personal touch on the furniture that also fits into the room’s colour palette. This product is offered in all colours from Jotun, NCS or F&B with three different gloss types: semi-gloss (40% of sheen), satin (20% of sheen) and matte (10% of sheen).

AKZO NOBEL - POLYURETHANE / EPOXY

The product polyurethane can be used for many different purposes, but at Noremax it is used as a surface treatment for fronts. Polyurethane contains chemical compounds that are part of plastic materials in the hardboard group. It consists wholly or partly of isocyanates, aliphatic or aromatic amines and polyether/polyester.

Polyurethane is extremely durable and resistant to several chemicals and can therefore be used with advantage as a covering both indoors and outdoors.

If you want fronts in a colour of your choice that can withstand bumps and knocks without quickly becoming scratched and chipped, this is a better alternative to regular coloured lacquer.

Maintenance:
Products treated with this type of surface treatment are maintenance-free and do not require any finishing. In case of spillage, steam, moisture, etc. this should be wiped away immediately so that it does not pull into the product and cause permanent damage.

If finger marks and grease stains occur, you can use a damp cloth with a few drops of gentle soap (alternatively Mr muscle cleaner for windows), wash over one product at a time and wipe it completely dry with paper towels. Please note that in the case of rubbing the surfaces, a polishing effect may be achieved by the wrong method of cleaning (hard polishing).

HARD WAX OIL

Osmo hard wax oil is specially designed for use on floors, but it can also be used on other interiors of suitable wood. The product is based on natural plant oils and grows that accentuate the natural appearance of the tree, which is a good alternative to clear varnish. The hard wax oil draws into the wood, protects from the inside and provides a protective surface against external influences that can be easily pointedly maintained and renovated.

Maintenance:
Products treated with this type of surface treatment are not maintenance-free. The Buyer must at the time of ordering be aware of the liability this entails and self-acquired the product to maintain the look, 1-2 times per year. If the buyer refrains from maintenance, the guarantee will not cover any damage or discolouration resulting from a lack of finishing.

STAIN

Stain is mainly used to give the wood a different shade while retaining the structure of the wood. The product is made up of transparent pigments, binder, water or solvent.
When applying stain, the natural irregularities of the wood can be further highlighted by only clarified or untreated wood.

Maintenance:
This product is used only in the context of clear varnish, where the stain is applied before varnish. For maintenance, see “AKZO NOBEL – CLEAR VARNISH”.

UNPROCESSED/NATURAL

We can deliver products completely untreated if you want to treat them yourself.
For your information, the warranty will lapse as the surface is supplied without protective surface treatment.

Maintenance:
The buyer is responsible for the maintenance of products delivered untreated.
