Make Your House A Home With Eco-Friendly Bamboo Décor
It‘s difficult to say what is right or wrong when decorating your home, but for me, it’s important that everything works coherently together. When I began to look at the different ways I could modernise my home, there were several finishes that caught my attention, such as a faktum kitchen – but none quite like the natural finish of bamboo.
Though this is not a common choice, bamboo has a natural grain that stands out against any colour palette for a minimalistic look. However, there is no definitive answer and it is completely down to personal preference, which is one of the reasons that interior design is so interesting.
The Kitchen
When redesigning my home, I had a few rooms at the top of my list. I was in the process of finishing my IKEA Method kitchen and finalising the colour
palette , but when it came time to pick the final material for the cupboard fronts, I found it difficult to decide exactly what style I wanted to go for. When discussing with my designer, I explained to him that I wanted a minimalist look with a natural finish where possible. I wanted something that was environmentally friendly, that can be naturally sourced and bought in bulk to reduce the damage on the environment and create a stylish looking kitchen for my home that was unlike any other I had seen.
When explaining to friends and family that the kitchen fronts are made from bamboo, they often asked me whether it gets dirty or damaged over time. The simple answer is no. The all-natural material has antibacterial properties known as Bamboo Kun which stops up to 70% of bacteria from growing, which is ideal for the kitchen as it will help to regulate the temperature of the room. The Ontime cupboard fronts that I ended up choosing were the perfect streamlined design to fit with exactly the design details that I wanted. Another reason why I wanted to opt for bamboo was because of the durability. Not only is it stronger than Oak but when treated it has the perfect finish to tie the room together.
Though this is slightly dampened by the treatment that is placed on the fibrous material, the antibacterial prosperities are ideal for a home with small children as I have found they can be cleaned with ease.
The Guest Bedroom
At this stage, I had begun to delve deeper into my research on environmentally friendly furniture and was pleasantly surprised at the number of products being produced from recyclable material that is perfect for almost any colour theme. This led me to think about the benefits of recyclable material for other parts of my home.
Upon conducting my research, I began the challenge of tackling the final room I wanted to redecorate – the guest bedroom. When I approached my designers on how else bamboo can be used, we decided upon using an elegance Bamboo + design to accentuate the wardrobe. Not only did the grain perfectly compliment the overall colour theme of the space, but it reflected the light in the room, helping to make it appear much bigger.
I then paired the Ontime wardrobe door front with several light wood frames to tie the look together and dressed the walls to make it even more appealing. I also added a neutral tone rug to make it even more homely. Though I know this is not for everyone, I particularly like the look of minimalism that the bamboo gave to the space and the straight vertical lines of the grain that had an all-natural look in any area of the house.
I highly recommend anyone who wishes to dabble in eco-friendly material to look into bamboo fronts and the properties that they possess as I am finding them to be the perfect design choice for my home. Will you give them a go, too?
