Faktum – Nordic Walnut

£ 0.00

Nordic Walnut lets you bring a piece of nature into your home. The design is made of walnut-veneered fronts with the bold texture of the walnut as the centrepiece. The design works well in both rustic and modern interiors, creating a unique expression with each front. A new favourite in our standard collection!

Fronts and side panels in Nordic Walnut can be treated in two different ways:

1. Clear lacquer to retain the natural wood nuance.
2. Hard wax oil to retain the natural wood feel & nuance.

Material: Made of MDF covered with walnut veneer

Painted fronts are treated with two-component acid curing lacquer from Akzo Nobel. When choosing fronts spray-painted in solid color, it is important to note that the color is ordered on prescription for color match. The result depends mainly on the material and method of application, but also what kind of product being used in relation to shade and gloss. This entails that painted fronts from Noremax will not necessarily look the same as other surfaces painted in the same color with a different product.

Paint: Akzo Nobel standard paint – available in semi-gloss, satin and matte finish or Polyurethane paint – available in a satin finish only

Akzo Nobel standard paint is an industrial paint that is less resistant to scratches and chipping, and less water-resistant. Polyurethane paint is an industrial paint that is more durable, more waterproof, more scratch resistant, and easier to maintain and clean.

The side panels are usually wider than the cabinet itself. This is to cover the carcass, the thickness of the front plus a few mm to be able to adapt the side panel to the wall/floor which often turns to be uneven. When using a hanging rail, the side does not necessarily cover the full thickness of the front.

The side panels are delivered in standard dimensions while the fronts vary in thickness depending on the design. Please contact us if you would like to order other dimensions than what is in our range.

Side panels to cover Ikea METOD Carcasses

Sides are cover panels used on the sides of the cabinet frames. The purpose of the panels is to give the design a comprehensive and coherent expression. It is therefore also natural to choose the same colour on the side panels as on the fronts. The side panels from Noremax are made of the same material as the fronts and are treated with the same durable lacquer. The thickness of the side panels for Nordic Walnut is 16 mm but can vary +/- 1 mm.

Should you require side panels in sizes not found in the standard selection, it is common practice to order panels one size larger and then cut down to size. The side panels can also be used for other purposes such as shelves and furnishings to name a few.

Please note that the dimensions of our side panels are rounded up to the nearest cm. Read more under our FAQ.

The decor strip is made of the same material as the fronts with dimensions of 30 x 55 mm and is delivered in a standard length of 2.4 meters and cut down to size on the assembly place. The strip is usually used to conceal lighting mounted under the top cabinets. They are supplied in the same durable paint as your fronts.

Important! The Faktum fronts that are size 40 x 125 and 60 x 125 need different cut outs for the hinges depending on where they are placed within your kitchen design (at the bottom (Figure A) , in the middle or on top of the cabinet (Figure B) ).

Please note that 3 door high cabinets will only work with standard cut out hinges as long as the main door (125 cm long) is placed in the middle or on the top.

If you require the main door to be on the bottom then you will need to specify this in the order note when you come to checkout. Failure to do this will occur additional cost of sending new fronts. If you need any assistance please contact us before placing order.

Choose the paint type and gloss finish

Standard paint: Semi-gloss - without additional charge, Satin 5% additional charge, Matte 10% additional charge
Polyurethane paint: Satin only - 20% additional charge

Polyurethane can be used for many different purposes, but in this case, it is used as a surface treatment for fronts, sidepanels and plinths. Polyurethane varnish is an industrial varnish that is more durable and scratch-resistant, but also easier to maintain and clean.
The choice of varnish must be considered according to your own use and needs. Due to its resistant properties, we recommend polyurethane varnish for kitchens.

Screws are not included with the side panels, so we recommend using ordinary mounting screws purchased separately or from us.

Choose fronts in Nordic Walnut to update your IKEA Faktum kitchen

Nordic Walnut is the perfect design for those who want to bring a piece of nature into their home. The fronts and side panels are made from 16 mm MDF with a walnut veneer on top. This creates a textured surface that lets the bold movement of the distinct annual rings of the walnut to really shine. The veneer can be treated either with a clear coat with the option to choose gloss, or with a hard wax oil that leaves a matte finish.

This material and its properties might bring your thoughts back to the 70’s and the use of tonal wooden cabinets and wooden paneling on the walls. Although this trend is making a comeback, it is not a design taste that suits everybody. Nordic Walnut is not only great for more retro interiors but will also look good in a modern or even rustic setting. Below we will list some ideas on how you can use Nordic Walnut as a base to create interesting combinations, both retro and contemporary.

Create the perfect kitchen with the right details

The Nordic Walnut design has the great ability to be adapted into any interior that is looking to add some natural elements to it. This is true whether you are looking for a minimal Scandinavian look, or if you want to create a bold eclectic vibe. Here are some tips on how to achieve both:

1. Decide which route you want to take

This is the most important decision before going into any project – What is the vision and how to achieve it? Try finding distinctive traits to a design that you like and put them all together to create your own personal moodboard. For a Scandinavian design this might focus on keeping the natural texture of the wood as a centrepoint and adding little to no decoration. As for the eclectic look, it can be a good idea to think of complementing materials, bringing in more textures and adding a pop of colour.

2. Find the perfect details

When you have your design vision determined and the base in place, the fun and important part of adding details can begin. Sometimes it is the smallest details that can make or break a design, so take the time and choose wisely! Noremax has a wide assortment of furniture accessories, including handles and knobs. Our handles Surf or Bowl can be great additions in a Scandinavian kitchen, thanks to their wooden material and tone. If you want to add something more of a pop to highlight the Nordic Walnut fronts even more, a knob like Hexagon or Charm can do the trick in a retro design.

3. Let there be light

No IKEA Faktum kitchen is complete without proper lighting. Make sure that you have functional work lighting, overhead lighting but also pieces that creates ambient lighting. Lighting is the perfect opportunity to add that final touch of personality, so don’t overlook it.

Choose replacement fronts for IKEA Faktum and get full flexibility

Replacement fronts in Nordic Walnut is a great way to update your IKEA Faktum kitchen, no matter what style you are looking to achieve. Choose to keep the fronts by themselves in either a clear coat with your choice of gloss, or a matte hard wax oil. This will add warmth and interest to any interior. For more variation you can choose to add a complementary design to even further highlight the style you are going for.

In line with the retro paneled wood trend, you can combine the Nordic Walnut design with our design Skyline. The slatted surface of this design will look good in any colour. We offer over 3000 colours to choose from, either from NCS, Jotun or Farrow&Ball, so the choice is entirely yours! Or why not choose a front from our Soft Matte Collection and create a smooth, modern combination. The textured surface of the Nordic Walnut fronts will look great next to the matte finish of the Soft Matte design.

Here at Noremax, we do our best to make sure that your expectations will be met. Once you have made your decision and placed the order, your new walnut fronts will be sent directly home to you. When you have received your delivery you only have to install the fronts. The installation process is very straightforward. All you need to have prepared is a screwdriver and the appropriate hinges for the design you have chosen. The fronts come prepared with holes for hinges, which makes them easy to mount on existing IKEA frames.

And voilà! With just a few steps, your new kitchen is ready for you to use and enjoy for years to come.
