What Is The INFRAME Look And How Is It Achieved?
The renovation concept is a great benefit for architects, designers and carpenters as it gives the perfect modern look to any kitchen space. One could almost speculate whether people do it to follow trends, which basically changes every quarter of the year. Or maybe we’re just tired of the old and want something unique, personal and functional for our homes.
As most of us have heard before, the kitchen is the heart of the home. It’s where we prepare our food and enjoy the morning coffee whilst chatting about the weather, the afternoon’s errands and the evenings summary of the day. Of course with the radio playing in the background. It’s also the best hub for having family or friends over for dinner. So why not invest in the kitchen?
More and more of us are choosing an upgrade over a total renovation, often opting for a colour theme of white, black and grey kitchen for a style modern look. However, we have noticed many people asking about “Inframe” which is a concept that actually came to life many, many years ago.
You’ve probably seen it in dozens of interior and kitchen magazines but never really paid attention to it or are unsure of how it is achieved. To explain this easily; Inframe is when the fronts or cabinets are framed, often due to the construction of the carcasses, that’s if you buy your kitchen from expensive kitchen retailers. But what if we told you this is achievable without spending all your savings?
It’s actually possible to create an outstanding Inframe kitchen with IKEA Metod cabinets. Trend or not, we just love the look!
To create this modern retro look in your home you could get the fronts in one colour and add side panels and plinths in a different colour. If you’re finding it hard to choose between to colours, no problem; simply choose both! This way you will create a more airy and voluminous look with an illusion of more space between the fronts, making your kitchen appear more spacious even when you are restricted on space.
If you’d like it even more unique, mixing up different materials could also be an option. Using our Circle fronts in a specific shade of green and combining Nordic sides for a wooden frame will make the kitchen look retro and organic!
So, how do you implement this? Simply explained: You buy extra side panels that are being fixed between, above and below the carcasses. We recommend to screw them in from the inside of the cabinets to make sure they hold properly. However they can be glued as well.
Just make sure you’ve calculated the thickness of our Noremax side panels, between each cabinet on your IKEA kitchen drawings, so you don’t end up not having enough space to follow through. All our side panels are 12mm thick, except for Bamboo side panels which are 20 mm thick making them the perfect option for a kitchen of any size.
You can also be creative with the depth, whether you want the frames deeper, in-flight or with an overhang. Usually, the side panels you are putting between the cabinets need to be lined up with the door, not just the cabinet, that means you need to allow that extra millimetre to match door thickness. However, we strongly recommend using a skilled craftsman for this project as there is a lot of cutting and precision needed to get the perfect Inframe look.
You may now think to pursue this is a hassle and yes, it takes a bit of work, but remember you will love your kitchen much longer if it’s exactly how you visualized it! This can also be done with your PAX wardrobes and BESTA storages to provide you with the perfect modern look for your home, without spending a small fortune.
If you have any more questions regarding Inframe look please contact us and we will happily answer all your questions and help you to create your chosen kitchen space with a great finish every time.
